Nepal Livelihood and Resilience Project (NLRP) - IPM Program

Sarbodaya Nepal a Lalitpur based NGO working in  Lalitpur, Kavre, Kathmandu, Dolakha and Jumla districts  in promotion of sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, water and sanitation, skills and enterprise development and education. Sarbodaya Nepal has been implementing Nepal Resilient and Livelihood Program (NLRP) with focus on urban agricultural activities like rooftop gardening, farmer’s field schools,  compost and organic fertilizer production, and promotion high value products organically since 2019 to date in partnership Caritas Nepal. Sarbodaya Nepal has a pool of trained human resources in designing, implementation and management of roof top gardens.

Sarbodaya Nepal has trained 3,000 farmers in Farmer Field Schools on integrated pest management during 2019-2021 under Nepal Livelihoods and Resilience Program from Caritas Nepal.  The farmers are trained on integrated crop and pest management practices, micro-nutrients nutrient management, judicial use of pesticides and fertilizers, preparation and use of organic fertilizer, Bokasi manure preparation using the forest soil and pest control sprays, seed quality and varieties assessment, plant health and yield monitoring.  Organic Rooftop Farming and adaptation and mitigation to climate change in Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts.  Organic Rooftop Farming is integrated in the project. So far 570 households in urban settlement of Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts have established roof-top garden from the project support (Please see front page picture as a sample). On average, the foo-top garden owner produces 350 kg vegetables /fruits/species and save Rs 22000.00 annually. They are able to meet nearly 50 percent of vegetables requirements of the family. Some of them are also making money selling surplus products.
